WELCOME TO SOS POLICE
SOS POLICE
SOS POLICE is a non-profit citizen organization founded and derived from SOS Puerto, with the objective of protecting and improving the tourism development of Puerto Escondido.
Our mission is to inform, educate and support both tourists and residents about their rights and obligations, always promoting a safe and fair environment.
With initiatives like SOS Police, we are committed to alerting and protecting the community against any abuse of power, continually working for a more just and equitable Puerto Escondido for all.
SOS POLICE Objectives
Inform
Provide clear and accessible information to tourists and residents about their rights and obligations towards the authorities, so that they are well informed and can defend themselves against possible abuses of power.
Orientate
Establish mechanisms to alert and protect the community against extortion and unconstitutional acts by the police, promoting a culture of reporting and responsibility.
Justice
Raise awareness among the community and authorities about the importance of fair and respectful treatment, working to improve the relationship between the police and the population, and ensuring that human and constitutional rights are respected

We invite you to download the PDFs of the most important documents that you need to know based on current law.
Practical recommendations
Know your rights
Find out about your rights and obligations as a citizen and tourist. Knowing the law will help you defend yourself better.
Keep calm
Remain calm and respectful at all times. Do not confront authority with aggression or disobedience. Show confidence and knowledge
Request identification
Politely ask for the officer's identification and take note of his or her name and badge number.
They usually try to be hidden and remain antonyms, but it is their obligation.
Do not hand over money
Never offer or give money to an officer. Extortion is illegal and agreeing to pay can make the situation worse, you only encourage them to continue taking advantage of others.
If you are charged a fine, request your official receipt from the municipality.
Record the event
If possible, record the interaction with your mobile phone. Do it discreetly if possible.
Doing it live or sending the evidence immediately is useful to avoid being forced to delete it and to have tools to raise your voice
Eyewitnesses
If there are people around, try to have witnesses present who can corroborate your version of events or who can help you.
Try not to be alone or expose yourself in risky places or times
Avoid isolated places and night hours
Try not to stay alone in isolated places. Move the interaction to a public, bright place.
Most events occur while alone, in dark, lonely places and at night.
Take care of your things and protect yourself
If they ask to search your belongings, politely ask if they have a court order to support their request.
They can't go through your things or search you. Keep your distance, don't let them touch you.
Don't expose yourself
Avoid possessing drugs and alcoholic beverages on the beach, street or public spaces.
Seek to be in private establishments and accompanied.
Evidence, complaints and testimonies
Having evidence and testimonies is essential to be able to raise our voices as an organization and community, allowing us to go to government agencies and the media to expose social problems.
Share your experience and evidence with us. It serves us well as background. You can do it in the following section or send it to [email protected]
We recommend you file a complaint with the CNDH (National Human Rights Commission). https://atencionciudadana.cndh.org.mx/
